Darrell Scott, Gretchen Peters Lead New Independent Albums

Playlist Series Adds Montgomery Gentry, Gretchen Wilson

Nashville singer-songwriters Darrell Scott and Gretchen Peters are among the independent musicians releasing new albums on Tuesday (Jan. 31).

Scott's Long Ride Home pays tribute to the country music he heard in his youth. Scott's writing credits include the Dixie Chicks' "Long Time Gone" and Travis Tritt's "It's a Great Day to Be Alive."

Meanwhile, Peters' Hello Cruel World shares her experiences with the Gulf Coast oil spill, a friend's suicide and the discovery that her child is transgendered. Peters' songwriting credits include Martina McBride's "Independence Day" and Trisha Yearwood's "On a Bus to St. Cloud."

Other new independent releases include roots artist Lincoln Durham's The Shovel [vs] the Howling Bones, bluegrass band Bill Emerson & Sweet Dixie's The Touch of Time,

pop-country group Exile's People Get Ready, blues singer Ruthie Foster's Let It Burn, singer-songwriter Susan Greenbaum's This Life, Americana duo the Pines' Dark So Gold and acoustic group the Matt Flinner Trio's Winter Harvest.

New compilations include Playlist: The Very Best of Montgomery Gentry and Playlist: The Very Best of Gretchen Wilson, as well as Tony Rice: The Bill Monroe Collection.
