OFFSTAGE: Tim McGraw, Fishing for Compliments

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

This is wife law: After 15 years of marriage, you have officially earned the right to make fun of your husband on live television. Even if that husband is Tim McGraw. Faith Hill knows that, and she took advantage of it Wednesday (Feb. 8) on Good Morning America . “He’s just fishing for all kinds of compliments,” Hill said to host Robin Roberts (and the audience). She said it because throughout the interview, McGraw kept hinting that Hill is the better singer of the two. “When she goes with me, we sell more tickets, so we gotta do more shows,” McGraw said of their upcoming Australian tour. And then, “It’s OK to lower her standards for a song or two, but for a whole record? I don’t know if she wants to get down in the gutter for that long,” he says about the possibility of them making an album together. McGraw even started the interview by answering a question about their love story inspiring their fragrances with, “It’s all fake. None of it’s true. We’re actually married to other people.” Good looks and a sense of humor? He is a real good man.
