OFFSTAGE: Scotty McCreery to Sing Tim McGraw for 'Idol'

What a way to go. Tim McGraw's "Please Remember Me" is the new American Idol elimination song, and I can't think of a better piece of buh-bye music. Especially since season 10 winner Scotty McCreery will be doing the singing. McCreery chose this tune, a single from McGraw's 1999 A Place in the Sun album, over two others. "I've known that song forever and loved it. I sent [McGraw] a little message and told him we just cut it and it was going to be on Idolevery week," he said. "He said, 'Oh, man. That's really cool. I'm sure you nailed it.'" I'm with McGraw. It is really cool. Because this song isn't some kind of boo-hoo ballad. It's more about having high hopes for what's to come ("That's where your journey starts" and "You'll find better love") and just asking that you remember him. Or, in this case, Idol. McCreery says he is ecstatic he gets to be connected to the show every week, even if it is in a bittersweet kind of way. "Every week, when the song would play and we'd have to watch the goodbye video, it was always a tough time. I never had to experience it, but I always felt it," he said. You can hear McCreery's version on Thursday's (March 8) show and/or buy it on iTunes.
