What would you like to hear first? The back story on Miranda Lambert’s cut-lace choker from her “Over You” video? Or details on how you can make it your own? I should probably start with the back story because this jewelry has some serious history. As in, pieces of it are over 100 years old.
It comes from Karen Lindner , who made Lambert’s custom wedding jewelry. And here’s what she told me about this new/old piece: “It’s made from late-1800 fragments of beaded and embroidered cut-lace appliqués. It was meant to be a cuff, I think, from a very formal dress. It’s all hand-sewn, with iridescent beads and then a copper ribbon tie closure that I put on it. I also attached the iolite, smoky topaz and labradorite drops,” Lindner said. And even though Lindner’s aesthetic is not necessarily a gothic look, she told me she creates jewelry that celebrates the collectible nature of these forgotten pieces. That’s the vibe I get from the choker and the song.
And how can you celebrate those pieces? By buying this very necklace Lambert wore in the entire video. Starting Monday (March 12), there will be an auction for necklace, and the proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society. The bidding will start around $200, but I know this necklace is worth so much more. So mark your calendars and start setting some money aside. But I have to warn you. You’ll be bidding against me. May the best fan win.
