OFFSTAGE: Take Me Home, Zac Brown

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Zac Brown may not be the one who literally jumps in your car and drives you home after his show. But he is the absolutely the one making all the arrangements, and for that, I thank him. Brown has teamed up with Jack Daniel's to make it very clear that it's not OK to drive after a night of drinking. At one of his shows or otherwise. This program will, according to the website, "hook you up with a professional driver who'll stop by your place and drive your car for you and your friends to the Zac Brown Band concert. Then get you home again after the show. Gratis!" (Unless you live in California, where for some reason, the free rides are not available.) To qualify, all you have to do is watch a video about thinking and drinking and look over some questions about knowing the signs that someone has had too much to drive. (Those individuals are annoying, their eyes are glassy, they stumble, they are way too talkative, etc.). Then you get a "freedom badge," and you're good to sign up for a ride. If more artists followed Brown's example, I wonder what kind of an impact that would have on the number of DUIs after concerts.
