OFFSTAGE: A Little Q&A With Lady A

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Technically, I wasn’t the one asking the questions. But Lady Antebellum still had plenty of answers. It was in their very informal meet-and-greet last week before their Chicago show. (Note to future meet-and-greet attendees: Always ask questions Charles Kelley can answer in song. Because he will. He even answered wedding questions intended for Hillary Scott with a little bit of the old Tim McGraw and Faith Hill duet “Let’s Make Love.”) Here’s a sample of the answers the band gave:

On planning a wedding: “We didn’t have a long engagement, which I actually completely recommend because wedding planning can add to the stress. And I say don’t get caught up in what the world says a wedding should be,” Scott said. “Make sure it’s perfect for y’all.”

On sitting behind Bonnie Raitt at the Grammys: “I was too nervous to even tap her on the shoulder,” Scott said.

On songs about being single: “Sometimes my wife says, ‘Is everything all right?’ But on ‘Need You Now,’ I would think back, and I was that guy calling, saying, ‘I know it’s late, but what are you doing?,’” Kelley said.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
