Cabbage and Apples

1 medium head of cabbage, coarsely chopped
2 cups apples, peeled and sliced
½ cup sugar
1 cup fine bread crumbs
6 tablespoons butter, melted

Preheat oven to 350°.

Drop cabbage into boiling water and cook 5 minutes, until slightly tender but crunchy. Drain. Layer cabbage and apples in a 2-quart casserole, sprinkling sugar and bread crumbs on each layer. Pat last layer flat before adding last crumbs. Pour melted butter over top of casserole. Cover and bake at 350° for 45 minutes. Remove cover for last 15 minutes.

You will want cornbread with this delicious dish.
