OFFSTAGE: John Rich: “Where’s Your Couch? I’m Movin’ In”

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

John Rich just sang “Feel Like Makin’ Love” to Today host Hoda Kotb on Thursday (March 22). She almost didn’t know where to look. Frankly, I almost didn’t know where to look. “You know you’re hitting on me now with your eyes,” he said to Kotb, before launching into the 1975 Bad Company hit with a twist: “Hoda, when I think about ya, I think about love.” But Rich wasn’t co-hosting the show just to sing inappropriate old songs. He was also talking up his new reality show called The Star Next Door. “It’s basically the 180 of American Idol,” he explained, because the judges come to the singers, instead of the other way around. He says he will walk up to someone’s door, tell them he has been watching and listening to their singing and is there to help. “Where’s your couch? I’m movin’ in,” he said he’ll say to the shocked contestants. John Rich crashing on your couch? That won’t be awkward at all. The new series is set to premiere this summer on the CW channel.
