OFFSTAGE: Jason Aldean on ACM Nominations and Country's Fight Against Hay Bale Image

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

In an interview with the Academy of Country Music, Jason Aldean has a lot to say about his nominations for the awards on Sunday (April 1). Like how great it is to have six of them. "It's cool to be noticed in just one of those categories," he said. "And then when you walk away from there and you have six nominations? It's a good feeling. It makes you excited to wanna go to the show. It's a completely different experience when you're heading out to Vegas and you know that you're up for that many awards," he says. But he also talks about how people still make think of country music as kind of small town. "Country music still kind of fights the stereotypes a lot of times. And here we're having a country music show, and it's in one of the glitziest cities in the world, so it just shows you that were not still sitting on hay bales passing out awards at these shows," Aldean says. "You know it's a big deal." He is ready to make the trip to Las Vegas, even though he admits he loses a lot of money gambling every year. Hopefully, even if he does lose a little cash, he'll go home rich in awards.
