OFFSTAGE: Carrie Underwood Feels Like an Elected Official

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

In a recent radio interview, Carrie Underwood admitted that her American Idol reality-show path into the music industry was not a traditional one. “I came into this music industry in a different way through American Idol, and I feel like I’m an elected official, often, because they voted me in,” she said. “They voted for me. I still get people coming up to me all the time saying, ‘I voted for you! Oh, my gosh. It’s been so great to see everything that’s happened in the past seven years.’” Come to think of it, a constituency like hers might make Underwood a viable contender for a political career someday. I mean, if Kim Kardashian is considering running for mayor, anything’s possible.
