OFFSTAGE: Taylor Swift From Both Sides, Now

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

According to Variety, Taylor Swift is being considered for the role of singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell in the upcoming film, Girls Like Us. They reported Swift does not have an official offer yet, but she has nonetheless been linked to the role for months. The movie, based on the book of the same name, will tell the diverse stories of Mitchell, Carole King and Carly Simon. Swift may not be Hollywood's typical go-to leading lady, but I can see how she'd have some advantages over other actresses. She already plays guitar and knows what goes on inside the mind of a poetic songwriter, and I'm betting she'd sing the hell out of Mitchell's oft-covered 1969 tune, "Both Sides Now." And Swift already admitted to MTV she has been reading movie scripts for about five years. "In my free time, that's all I do is read scripts. I just want to make decisions really carefully. I think, with movies, it's really important that you have to love something so much that you cannot think about anything else," she said. "If you're going to become someone else, that's a huge deal."
