OFFSTAGE: Vince Gill Amused by Country’s Hard Rock Influence

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

In this Q&A from Friday’s (April 27) Chicago Tribune, I think Vince Gill seems rather amused by the musical direction of a handful of his Nashville brethren. When the Tribune asks Gill what he makes of the whole “country-music-goes-hard-rock trend,” he says, “It makes me laugh when I hear this Def Leppard-sounding record with a guy singing to me about how country he is. I appreciate them wanting to rock as hard as they want, but it’s humorous to me that, lyrically, they’re screaming about how hot your chick is in your truck.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
