OFFSTAGE: Martina McBride Adds a Pinch of Multi-Tasking to Tart

Cooking takes some concentration. There are recipes with fractions, things to chop, pots and pans to find and ovens to heat. All simultaneously. So when you add a camera crew to that? I can’t imagine how stressful it was for Martina McBride when she was taping the episode of ABC’s The Chew which aired Wednesday (May 9). She even admitted in her blog that doing all that at once was intimidating. “I cannot talk (or do anything else) while I cook. It’s a fact. I read about giving a dinner party and leaving a few things undone so ‘guests can join you in the kitchen, help out and feel like they are part of it.’ Oh no, no, no. I don’t deal well with distraction while I am cooking,” she wrote, adding, “Those people that drink wine while they cook? Forget about it! I’m pretty sure some kind of culinary disaster would ensue.” But after this Chew experience, McBride does think that with practice, she could eventually be the kind of cook who asks a dinner party guest to whip the cream or slice the bread or sauté the onions.
