Dolly Parton, Patsy Montana Recordings Added to Library of Congress

Dolly Parton's "Coat of Many Colors" and Patsy Montana's "I Want to Be a Cowboy's Sweetheart" have been added to the National Recording Registry of the Library of Congress, the organization announced Wednesday (May 23). Each year, 25 recordings from a variety of genres are chosen for their cultural, artistic and historical value. In a press release, the Library of Congress states that Parton's 1971 recording "affectionately recounts an impoverished childhood in the hills of Tennessee that was made rich by the love of her family." The organization also praised the "lively, quick polka tempo and yodeling refrain" and Montana's "exuberant delivery" on her 1935 recording. Both women are members of the Country Music Hall of Fame.
