David Nail fractured his finger Saturday (June 9) while playing in the City of Hope celebrity softball game during the CMA Music Festival in Nashville. Nail, who was once awarded an athletic scholarship at Nashville’s Aquinas College, sustained the injury which catching a low line drive. Transported to the emergency room at Vanderbilt Medical Center, he was treated for a minor fracture of his right ring finger and a detached tendon. He will seek additional treatment from a specialist early this week. In a tweet, Nail said, “This is a lesson to not play like you’re 18 when you’re 33.” The annual softball game raises money for the City of Hope in its mission to find cures and treatments for cancer and other diseases. Carrie Underwood and American Idol‘s Scotty McCreery and Lauren Alaina also participated in this year’s event.
