OFFSTAGE: Scotty McCreery Answers Twitter Fans

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

After I talked to Scotty McCreery last night (June 17) about all the things I wanted to talk to him about, I gave his fans the chance to ask a few questions. (I let the Twitter world know I'd be hanging with him before his sold-out Chicago House of Blues show and they could ask him through me.) I couldn't ask everything, especially not the "Will he marry me?" kind, but I did get answers for the most pressing questions.

What's your favorite part of summer?

It used to be the relaxing time. But you can't really relax on the road. I used to sleep until 2 in the afternoon sometimes before this. I loved going to beach, the heat, hanging out with friends. We still get to do a little bit of that when I'm back home and yet still get to do this life out here. And it's crazy cool out here on the road.

Do you ever get your own songs stuck in your head?

Every now and then, but not often, because I hear my songs enough on the road. So when I turn on the radio and one of my songs comes on, I'll flip the channel. I hear my stuff so much, and I like to hear other artists' stuff and be influenced by other artists' music.

When will you ever make a "Water Tower Town" video?

It's done and should be out this week. It's kind of like a performance-based video, as well as having little snippets of my hometown. Things that my fans will be familiar with. It's cool for me because I get to look back on both aspects of my life.

Will the duet with Lauren Alaina you promised happen soon?

Oh my goodness. I'd love to. But we haven't talked about it professionally yet. So probably a little bit down the road. We're both still establishing ourselves as solo artists. We did a spontaneous duet in Los Angeles a couple weeks ago, after Idol finales when she was playing at the Greek. We did "When You Say Nothing at All." It was pretty nice.

What's your take on the new American Idol winner, Phillip Phillips?

He's the man. A cool dude. He's holding the crown for us Idols. I talked to him a little bit on the Idol finale night and he seems like he's got his head on straight. I'm looking forward to getting his album and seeing what kind of music he makes. 'Cause he's not necessarily country, and he's not rock. He's kind of got his own little niche.
