OFFSTAGE: Carrie Underwood Doesn't Judge Others

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Carrie Underwood stands by what she said. What she said, if you missed it a couple of weeks ago in a British newspaper, The Independent, was that she believes everyone should have the right to love, that her church was gay-friendly and that she doesn't judge people. Unfortunately, people judged her. While the gay community was thrilled to have the country star's support (even Latin pop singer Ricky Martin tweeted this weekend, "This is a #FF on a Saturday for @carrieunderwood Come on #sexysouls let's show her some love!), the anti-gay community wasn't quite as happy. But she reiterated her stance Tuesday (June 19) when she was on the BBC's Breakfast program. "I'm pro non-judgment. I'm pro loving people. That's kind of what I'm all about," she said. And earlier in the week, Underwood told The Associated Press, "I was asked a difficult question in the last five minutes of an interview, and I answered it the best way I knew how, and after that I do what I do. ... I love making music, and I generally try to stay out of any kind of controversy."
