Hunter Hayes Performs on O Music Awards

Opens Mississippi Performance as the Flaming Lips Break Guinness World Record

Hunter Hayes did his part Thursday (June 28) during the O Music Awards to help the Flaming Lips break a Guinness World Record for the most concerts in multiple cities during a 24-hour period. With the assistance of an array of opening acts, including Grace Potter & the Nocturnals, the alternative rock band broke Jay-Z's record by performing shows in eight cities.

The bus tour began Wednesday in Memphis, Tenn., and was captured in its entirety during a video stream provided by Viacom Music Group, which includes CMT, MTV, VH1 and Logo. Following five stops in Mississippi and another in Baton Rouge, La., the tour ended Thursday when the band made the 7:30 p.m. ET deadline to break the record at the House of Blues in New Orleans.

Hayes opened the show early Thursday morning at Benny's Boom Boom Room in Hattiesburg, Miss. Singer-songwriter Jackson Browne made a surprise appearance in Hattiesburg and sang "These Days" with Flaming Lips frontman Wayne Coyne. Other opening acts at various dates included New Fumes, Gary Clark Jr., Neon Indian and Givers. Laura Bell Bundy hosted one of the awards show segments that originated in New Orleans.
