OFFSTAGE: When Lady A Travels, Womanista Tags Along

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Lady Antebellum‘s excellent European adventure starts next week in Dublin. From there, they’ll be popping up all over there for gigs in spots like London and Zurich and Frankfurt and Copenhagen and Stockholm and, eventually, Sydney. I obviously can’t go. I mean, who would keep an eye on country stars’ lifestyles back home? But I will feel like I’m there, thanks to the Womanista website. The Womanista is Cassie Kelley, the band’s frontman Charles Kelley’s wife. And she keeps track, very stylishly, of ideas and inspiration for beauty, fashion, food and drink while she travels the globe with what she calls her traveling gypsy musician of a husband. So as Kelley was getting ready for this big eight-country tour, she wrote about what she’d be packing for the trip. Which includes the hysterical questions she asks herself, like, “Have you ever tried to sleep on a plane in skinny jeans?” and “Do they approve of mullet dresses in Sweden?” And then there are her seriously useful tips like using an oversized scarf as a pillow on the plane and wearing ballet flats so you can zip through airport security faster. She also admits that like any typical husband, Charles always ends up putting his things in her carry-on, so she recommends a big tote bag. Even if you can’t be there for this string of Lady A shows, it’ll be cool to see their travels through the eyes of a road wife.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
