OFFSTAGE: Is Lady Antebellum Partly Irish?

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

The girls in Dublin want to know: Is Lady Antebellum‘s Charles Kelley a little bit Irish?

In this adorably Irish video on the band’s website , a group of teenage girls were waiting outside Dublin’s Olympia Theatre to see the Lady Antebellum show earlier this week. And the band’s videographer got them to open up about their love of the band.

“We just want to know how tall Charles is. And we think he’s half Irish, because of ‘Kelley.’ And because he’s got the ginger thing going on,” one of the fans says. Personally, I’ve never really thought of Kelley as a ginger, but I guess in the right light his hair could look a little strawberry blondish.

She goes on to say, in her brogue, “He could be my brother. But I want to marry him, so that’d be awkward.”

I don’t know if they’re right about him being half Irish or not, but it’s just so good to see fans more than 3000 miles away loving country music as much as we love it here at home.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
