OFFSTAGE: Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert: Young World-Changers

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

When I read that Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, Blake Shelton and Miley Cyrus are all nominated for VH1 Do Something Awards, I immediately had that old Clay Walker song, "The Chain of Love," on my mind. (The one about the old lady with the flat tire and the nice guy who stops to help her, the pregnant waitress at the café where the old lady goes for a bite to eat and how they're all connected by this "don't let the chain of love end with you" philosophy.) It's a song about small acts of kindness and charity, but I can't help thinking that's how these celebs got started. And that small acts led to much much bigger acts. Like when Swift played a benefit for victims of tornadoes and donated $250,000 to University of Alabama head football coach Nick Saban's charity and did so much for the Make-a-Wish Foundation, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Habitat for Humanity. Lambert and Shelton played a benefit show, too, and raised $70,000 for a veteran's program and an animal shelter in their Oklahoma town. And Cyrus got millions of her Twitter followers to donate $5 each to animal charities. So for that, these celebs are nominated for the Do Something awards, which honor young world-changers. The show airs Aug. 21 on VH1.
