OFFSTAGE: Carrie Underwood Has "That Bluff Face," Says Kelly Clarkson

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

One down, one to go. Now that Mariah Carey has signed up to fill one of the vacant spots (left by the departure of Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler) at the American Idol judges' table, there's just one more seat to fill. And Kelly Clarkson seems to think her fellow Idol alum Carrie Underwood would be perfect for the job. Us Weekly asked if she thought Underwood would be a good fit, and Clarkson said, "She would! Didn't she major in journalism or something? And she can have that face ... that bluff face! She can put that on! She would be good." (Clarkson wouldn't want the job herself because she says mentoring is more her style.) I don't know if I agree with Clarkson about Underwood -- mainly because she just doesn't have time. Underwood is about to embark on her own big tour. So, in theory, sure, she'd be an excellent judge. But in reality, it's not likely to happen.
