OFFSTAGE: Miranda Lambert Was Never "Some Blond Girl in a Dress"

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Miranda Lambert has always wanted to be taken seriously. So when she was just getting started, she kind of kept her wardrobe on the casual side on purpose. "I sort of dressed in jeans, and I didn't want to be too dolled up because I really wanted people to listen to me. I didn't want to be just some blond girl in a dress. I wanted people to hear my message," she told CMT Radio. (And I remember vividly seeing her in 2004 in her debut video for "Me and Charlie Talking" in old ripped-up jeans and a Charlie Daniels Band jersey T-shirt.) "Now they've obviously heard it, so I feel like I can calm down off of that a little bit." Still, you won't see Lambert dolled up in dresses too often. Definitely on red carpets and for special events and appearances when she goes all out and gets uber glamorous right down to the rhinestones on her eyelashes. But like she said, she's already established herself as a sassy, straight talkin' Texan. And no designer dress can take that away from her.
