OFFSTAGE: Zac Brown Gets Off the Bus and Into Nature

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

So many country songs are written on a tour bus. But Zac Brown Band‘s “Uncaged”? That’s an off-bus kind of song. Brown told CMT Radio the title track from the band’s latest album came from a motorcycle ride. “I got the idea for that song, ‘Uncaged,’ from riding my motorcycle and being out on the road with the wind in my face, looking up, seeing a hawk flying above my head and thinking, ‘Wow. I’ve been sitting on a bus all day, every day, for the last five years on the road, and I could have been out getting myself back into nature,’” he said. “The nightlife, playing music and everything will definitely void you of nature.” I guess I see what he means. But on the other hand, when the Zac Brown Band is playing festivals and amphitheaters this summer, it feels downright outdoorsy. So it may void him of nature. But for me, listening to Brown sing while I’m watching the sun go down and feeling the breeze in a wide open space kind of sets my spirit free.
