OFFSTAGE: Top 20 Country Questions

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I’ve admitted before that I quote country music song titles and lyrics like other people quote the Bible. Whatever the situation, I say, there’s a country song for that. Kid leaving for college? “There Goes My Life.” Feeling old? “As Good as I Once Was.” Tough breakup? “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do.” But there’s another habit I have — some days it’s good, other days it’s terrible — of asking myself the same questions country singers ask in song. Does anyone else do that? And if so, could you add a few to my list?

Would you walk to the edge of the ocean, just to fill my jar with sand? (The Band Perry) Is someone else calling you baby? (Luke Bryan) How do you like me now? (Toby Keith) Why you gotta be so blind? (Carrie Underwood) What was I thinking? (Dierks Bentley) How bad do you want it? (Tim McGraw) Who wouldn’t want to be me? (Keith Urban) He walked up and said, “What’ll it be?” (Kenny Chesney) Why you gotta be so mean? (Taylor Swift) Why you gotta be angry all the time? (Tim McGraw) Are you alone, or are you with someone? (Jake Owen) Man, what happened to you? Why can’t you just have a few? (Blake Shelton) Is that you? Wow, your hair got so long? (Rascal Flatts) Hallelujah, is anybody up there? (Phil Vassar) Daddy, where do you go, when you leave me all these nights with a suitcase and a guitar in your hand? (Zac Brown Band) Do I turn you on at all? (Luke Bryan) Is it raining at your house? (Vern Gosdin) Who said whiskey was meant to drink a woman away? (Jake Owen) Do you want fries with that? (Tim McGraw) Where did I go right? (Warren Brothers)
