OFFSTAGE: Dierks Bentley on Bikinis and Boots

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Bikinis and boots. That’s pretty much the new uniform at country concerts. I know it, and Dierks Bentley knows it. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly , he talks about his craziest summer memories. Things like singing during a downpour, reenacting the battle scene from Braveheart and putting banjo in his duet with Pearl Jam’s Mike McCready. But the memory of his I loved the most is from the B-93 Birthday Bash in Martin, Mich. “That’s when I realized the new summer attire for country girls is bikinis and boots,” he said. “Everyone was wearing bikinis and boots. The whole show, you’re trying to perform but there’s this steady stream of bikinis and boots. It’s like, wow, my daughter is never going to a concert.” Which is exactly what I thought back when my daughters were little and the uniform was still just tank tops, cut-offs and boots. I hope by the time Bentley’s two daughters actually want to go to a concert, country girls go retro and bring that look back.
