OFFSTAGE: Fifty Shades of Sara Evans

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

If someone caught you with the erotic bestseller, Fifty Shades of Grey, you’d probably turn 50 shades of red. (Which is why this book is best read on an electronic device.) But that didn’t stop Sara Evans from buying the first book in the uber sexy trilogy before a recent plane ride. “I bought it. I took it on a plane, and my girlfriend was with me,” she told E! Online . “I decided to take a little nap, but I had the book on my lap. She stole it and started reading it, and she wouldn’t give it back to me because it was so good.” Her girlfriend has since loaned the twisted love story to another girlfriend, so Evans says she’s just going to have to buy another copy because she can’t wait to read it. “I’ve heard it’s great,” she said. The book, in case you don’t know, is about the dominant/submissive relationship between characters Christian Grey and Anastasia Steele. It’s been banned from libraries, made fun of on Saturday Night Live and is reportedly being made into a film. And maybe it could also potentially inspire Evans to write a very steamy country song. She could call it “Laters, Baby.”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
