OFFSTAGE: Sara Evans: “We’d Never Serve Caviar”

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Sara Evans has an open-door policy. “I saw on TV that the happiest countries in the world are the ones where the people get together with friends and family often,” Evans told People Country. “I just like to be around people and laugh.” And when her house is full of people, she says easy comfort food is the best because that way she’s not stuck in the kitchen cooking. “Everybody wants comfort food and finger foods. Most people don’t treat themselves to that kind of food on a daily basis, so if you can go to someone’s house and have something just so yummy, it feels like a special occasion.” But if you do go to Evans’ house, don’t expect anything too formal. Evans wants you to put your feet up, and she doesn’t care if you spill a drink on the couch. “I’m not a fancy cook,” she adds. “We’d never serve caviar.” Instead, she might opt for some of the recipes that accompany the story — spinach-cheese dip, cowboy nachos, turkey Rueben sliders and banana-caramel-sea-salt Krispies.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
