OFFSTAGE: LeAnn Rimes: Built Up and Torn Down

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

LeAnn Rimes was already happy and healthy. She just wants to be more so. In the Sept. 17 issue of People magazine, she says she wants to wake up and truly enjoy life and the amazing things around her. So she checked herself into a treatment facility. Not just because of the happier/healthier goal but because she has issues that have been buried for years. “Sometimes when I look in the mirror, I see a child, then I look and I see a woman who should be turning 60. I’ve always taken care of everyone else, and I think I’ve buried some issues for a long time,” she said. “I grew up having to care what people think. It was part of my job. I’ve been built up and torn down, built up and torn down. It’s been difficult to tune people out, especially in the last few years.” Rimes has been tweeting less often during her stay at the facility, so maybe that’s a sign she’s taking care of herself. I’m sure her fans and followers understand that.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
