OFFSTAGE: Hunter Hayes Stayed Up Stupid Late

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

This is how Hunter Hayes reacted to the news that his song "Wanted" went to the top of the charts. At the end of a long day on the road, his manager said he needed to talk to him. He brought all the band and crew out, they got in a massive circle and he gave Hayes the great news. "It's my first No. 1," Hayes told CMT Insider. "It means the world to me. It's everything. It's my second single, for heaven's sake." Hayes added that even though he's been dreaming of this day for so long, "It means so much more when you actually see your name in the slot on the paper." So to celebrate, they cranked up music and had a miniparty in the front of his bus. "We hung out, stayed up stupid late and made a big deal out of it," he said. "Because it is a big deal." Tourmate Carrie Underwood, who he calls "the sweetest person on the face of the planet," helped share the good news by mentioning it onstage and on Twitter.
