OFFSTAGE: Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum Take a Sad Song and Make It Better

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I don’t think I’ve ever heard a better cover version of a Beatles song. Mostly because of the stars singing this one — the hundreds of babies, toddlers and kids suffering from cancer. And doctors, nurses and scientists at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital who are helping to find each one of them a cure. Oh, and the celebrities. There are almost too many to count, but the country ones are the highlights for me. Like when Randy Owen sings, “So let it out and let it in.” Then Keith Urban comes in with, “Hey Jude, begin, you’re waiting for someone to perform with.” And Lady Antebellum‘s harmonies on “Hey Jude, don’t let me down.” And then Big & Rich‘s, “Take a sad song and make it better.” Make it better, in fact, is the theme of the whole video. You can watch it for free, but since all the care at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is free, it’d be nice if you could make a donation at the end of the song. Trust me, you’ll want to give them everything you can.
