OFFSTAGE: A Toast to David Nail for Sending Music to Troops

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I certainly do not need another reason to drink wine. But if it means sending David Nail's The Sound of a Million Dreams to the troops stationed overseas, then I guess I should pour myself a glass. And toast Nail. Because he is part of Liberty Creek Wine's mission to send music to the military through Operation Gratitude and Tunes for Troops. And since it's the first time Nail has done anything like this, I asked him how he decided to get involved.

"It was one of the coolest things ever," he said. "I was on a flight to Atlanta, and there's always a lot of military on that flight. So about 45 minutes into the flight, after talking with the soldier next to me the whole time, right before the plane landed he goes, 'You know, me and about seven other guys, when the work day's through, we'll crack open a cold one and listen to 'Turning Home' over and over and over. We reminisce and tell those glory day stories.' I hope every song on the album we're sending them now is one that the guys would like and could find some comfort in and would spark some good memories."

So all you need to do to support Nail and the troops is buy specially-tagged bottles of Liberty Creek Wines, and Operation Gratitude will put his CD into the packages they send the troops stationed overseas during this holiday season. When Liberty Creek came to Nail with the idea, he said he felt like it was fate.

"You say military, and I get excited. Then you add wine to the equation, and I'm sold," he told me. "Hopefully, this is just the beginning of our charitable efforts."
