OFFSTAGE: How Carrie Underwood Gets Ready for a Show

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Gone are the days of doing a couple vocal warm-ups before a concert. In fact, it looks like Carrie Underwood spends almost as much time off the stage prepping as she does on the stage singing. In a photo gallery in the Los Angeles Times from her Tuesday night (Oct. 16) show at Staples Center, you can see Underwood going through makeup touch-ups, autograph signings, picture taking and radio interviews. Then there’s the whole soundcheck before the show. And then wardrobe. Now, I’m sure Underwood probably changes her stage clothes often throughout her set, but there’s one dress that is just such a standout — in real life and in the gallery at No. 12. It is this stunning white silk strapless Maria Lucia Hohan gown with a feathery mullet skirt lined with black on the inside. Right before the show, Underwood tweeted, “So excited to be playing at the Staples Center tonight! 8 years ago, I took my first plane ride ever to LA … a lot has happened since then!” So in a way, Underwood has been getting ready for this tour for eight years.
