OFFSTAGE: Seeing 'Nashville' Through a "Telescope"

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Oh, Nashville. You have me obsessed. Last night's (Oct. 24) episode on ABC had everything I look for in a television drama: noncommittal men, drug-addict mothers, wealthy and judgmental fathers, serious money problems and side boobs.

Yes, side boobs.

When Rayna Jaymes' daughter Maddie is complaining that she has nothing to wear for her talent show, she says it's because "7th graders show belly and side boob."

Maddie and her sister Daphne are actually sisters in real life, Lennon and Maisy Stella, and they're pretty fabulous performers, too. So this school talent show was no act for the girls. In fact, their rendition of sassy starlet Juliette Barnes' single "Telescope" was, I think, the countriest song on the show. Especially thanks to Daphne's percussive boot stomps and hand claps.

You can see Barnes' new video for "Telescope" here. (Barnes is the character played by Hayden Panettiere, who actually sings on the track.) You might hear the song on country radio. And you can buy the single, too. But if you want to hear the little girls do it, you can watch the episode.
