OFFSTAGE: Jason Aldean Found Quiet Under "Amarillo Sky"

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that's happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

It's hard to believe Jason Aldean when he says there was a time when people didn't know the words to all his hit songs, especially now that he's on the verge of playing stadiums. But he told CMT Radio that while his live shows now are a true test of a new tune, it wasn't always that way.

"I mean, I remember us playing 'Amarillo Sky' before that was a single and people couldn't care less," he said of his 2006 hit. (By the way, that song's four writers include Big & Rich's Big Kenny and John Rich.) Aldean certainly wasn't talking about me, because I knew the words to "Amarillo Sky," "Why" and his debut song "Hicktown" before I ever saw him in concert.

Aldean went on to say, "Then, once it was a single and people got a chance to hear it and knew the words, then all the sudden it was a big hit. But then, we've had things like 'She's Country' and 'Dirt Road Anthem' that were not even hits yet, we played it and people freaked out."
