OFFSTAGE: Miranda Lambert on Milk, Froot Loops and Special K

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I’ll bet I know what kind of morning Miranda Lambert had Thursday (Nov. 1). A Special K vanilla-almond-with-skim-milk kind of morning. This being CMA Awards day and all. But if she was to have a full-on cheat day, she told me this week, it would be more of a Froot Loops and 2 percent milk morning. We were talking at the unveiling of Lambert’s “Got Milk?” ad campaign at the Country Music Association’s offices on Nashville’s Music Row. And even though she loves to drink milk, she admits it’s not always easy to keep on the tour bus. “But at home, we always have it. My mother-in-law taught me this trick: we freeze it in little containers so that we always have some ready,” she said. Lambert also told the crowd gathered at the CMA office that her mom was always up in the morning making sure they had a good breakfast before school. “Even if it was a Pop-Tart and a big glass of milk out the door,” she laughed. “I’m a healthy girl. I drink milk, and it does my body good.”

And Lambert is getting very comfortable at home now. She told me how she and husband Blake Shelton have been living in his hunting lodge, and that he recently let her have at it. “He let me fix it up and make it a little more girly while we’re taking our time building our dream house,” she said. “So I painted the cabinets, put some new furniture around and in the four bedrooms. It was all boyish. So I just made it a little more me.”
