OFFSTAGE: Little Big Town Take to Facebook for Q&A

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Who says you have to actually talk to chat? Little Big Town‘s Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet proved on Tuesday evening (Nov. 13) that you can answer just as many of your fans’ questions without saying a word.

In their Facebook chat, the members of the country foursome answered as many of the 100 or so questions that they had time for. (And made a promise to post Karen Fairchild’s mother’s recipe for strawberry pretzel salad in the next day or so, so stay tuned for that.)

Here are some of my favorite collaborative and individual responses from the chat:

If you hadn’t been able to use Little Big Town, what would your band name have been?

Tiny Huge City! Ha ha! Honestly, Little Big Town was the first and only band name we ever considered. We had a brainstorming session, and Little Big Town felt right from the start.

Congrats on your CMA awards! … I was wondering if any of you ever read the comments or posts from your fans on your website.

Thank you so much! We read them all the time and love hearing what you guys have to say … especially when it’s nice.

What is your favorite vacation spot?

Phillip’s favorite spot is Lanai, Hawaii. Karen and Jimi’s favorite place is Playa del Carmen. Kimberly’s favorite place is also Hawaii.

What’s the hardest part about being on the road?

The hardest thing about being on the road is being away from home and family.

Are y’all ever gonna start doing video chats again or anymore SSC videos?

Yes, we plan to start Scattered, Smothered and Covered again soon! Any suggestions?

What is your favorite home-cooked meal while on the road that makes you feel as if you were home?

Fried chicken, mashed potatoes or mac ‘n cheese … anything Southern!

Love your new album! Question about one of your older songs, “Lean Into It.”… What was the inspiration for that? Very powerful.

“Lean Into It” is about our journey as a band, as well as looking at people in our lives that were struggling when we were writing that particular album.

What were your majors in college?

Westbrook: Fun and football.

Out of the four of you, who is the biggest prankster?

That’s easy … Jimi.

What is your favorite Thanksgiving food item?

Schlapman: My mama’s dressing.

Sweet: Sweet potato casserole.

Westbrook: Also my mama’s dressing.

Fairchild: Strawberry pretzel salad.

What song (other than yours) most recently gave you goose bumps upon hearing it?

Schlapman: “Over You” by Miranda Lambert.

Fairchild: I’m in love with Bruno Mars’ new stuff, particularly “Locked Out of Heaven.”

Favorite thing to do while not on the road?

Sweet: I like to go to a cool, local eatery and check out new food.

Westbrook: Play golf.

Schlapman: Cook.

Fairchild: Pinterest with a glass of wine in my hand.
