The tall drink of water in Lady Antebellum — Charles Kelley — sounds like he is ready to pack on a few pounds on Thanksgiving. That is, if he intends to keep his family tradition alive. When he was younger, Kelley and his brothers would each gain five pounds by the time the holiday meal (and snacks and drinks and desserts) was over. “One of my most memorable Thanksgiving memories was probably the first year that me and my two brothers decided to start our annual eating contest,” he told CMT Radio. He explained the contest like this: “We ate throughout the whole day. We started that morning and weighed ourselves, and at the very end of the night, we weighed ourselves out. And all three of us equally gained five pounds. I wish we had a more accurate scale to decide the winner, but we all tied. Five pounds.” What Kelley didn’t say, and what I’m most curious about, is how long it took for those incremental five pounds to come off. Maybe the Kelley brothers had a separate contest for that.
