OFFSTAGE: Blake Shelton’s Mom Is Christmas Co-Writer

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Blake Shelton and his mom wrote a song together. And as if that’s not already the sweetest thing you’ve ever heard, he talks about her in the most loving way in the new issue of Ladies’ Home Journal. “My mom, Dorothy¬†Shackleford, never pursued singing, but when I was growing up, she sang on our karaoke machine. She and I wrote a song called ‘Time for Me to Come Home’ about how it’s not really Christmas if you’re not home with your mom,” he explains. The song is on his Cheers, It’s Christmas album. Then he talks about what Christmas morning was like at their house when Shelton was a kid. “My mom would go broke at Christmas just to see the look on our faces when we’d open something we wanted,” he said.
