OFFSTAGE: Nashville Drama Builds — Quote by Quote

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Even if you don’t watch ABC’s Nashville series, you can get a pretty good idea of what it’s like just by hearing bits and pieces of the script. Even if you take said bits and pieces out of context, you can hear the drama. And for those of us who are kind of obsessed with the show, you can probably guess who said what just by saying these quotes out loud.

“I am not Kryptonite, all right?”

“I’m not an investment. I’m an artist.”

“I don’t need anybody else’s wings. I’ve done this all on my own, and I plan to keep it that way.”

“Well, I don’t take orders.”

“Like hell you will.”

“It’s the same passive-aggressive maneuvering that prompted me to take a leak into one of Mr. Evans’ plants.”

“I’m willing to do this duet, no problem, as long as we skip over the part where we act like we actually like each other.”

“I think I know how to close a show.”

“I thought we were here because you’ve got fans whose parents don’t want them looking up to shoplifter.”

“Let be clear about something right now. You are gonna be on that stage because of me. I am doing this as a favor for the label I helped create. You have not earned that place — at all — and everybody here knows it.”

“I don’t believe in that music.”

“I would like nothing more than to make love to you. But I respect any woman too much to do that outside the confines of marriage.”

“You got the wrong song.”
