This just goes to show you the importance of song choice in life and on reality TV. Other than knowing Cassadee Pope as a contestant on Blake Shelton ’s team on The Voice, I didn’t really know her know her. But now that she belted out Keith Urban’s “Stupid Boy” on Tuesday night’s (Dec. 11) show , I know all about her. She used to be in a pop band called Hey Monday, plays a lot of instruments, likes to cook and in high school started a band named, of all things, Blake. But none of that really matters. What does is that when Pope sings country songs, good things happen. (She has performed other country songs on the show, including Rascal Flatts ’ “Stand” and Miranda Lambert ’s “Over You.” ) But her song choice last night blew me away. It was originally written by a girl (Sarah Buxton ) about a stupid boy, so hearing Pope do it was almost more fitting than when Urban does it. Even Shelton was passionate about Pope. “If you don’t support @CassadeePope and @TerryMacMusic you probably have severe plaque build-up,” he tweeted. Pope made it through to the show’s two-night finale which starts Monday.
