OFFSTAGE: The Allure of Carrie Underwood, Again

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Carrie Underwood ’s cover story in Allure magazine isn’t on newsstands yet. But on Tuesday (Jan. 22), you’re going to want to run out and get a copy. It’s that good. She opens up about things she hasn’t before. Like how she wears shorts under her dresses, just in case. “So that everyone in the world knows, if I ever fell down, nobody would get a peek at anything,” she says. And she elaborates more on her steadfast support of gay marriage, saying, “I am a Christian person, and I do love the Lord, and I feel no matter who you are, what you believe, how you live your life, it’s not my place to judge. I don’t have that power. I don’t want that power. It’s my place to love and to show God’s love to other people, even if they don’t live a life like I live.” And because her mother was a working mom who worked very hard, Underwood thinks that when she has a family of her own, she’s hoping the work will be spread more evenly between husband and wife. “I made a promise to myself that it would be more of a team effort in my family someday. And because of that, I became more independent,” she says. “But it was tough figuring out what kind of guy would work with what I did.” Sounds like Mike Fisher’s going to be changing a lot of diapers someday.

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
