OFFSTAGE: Tim McGraw: “It’s True Art”

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Tim McGraw is under a lot of influences right now. Musically, anyway. He told the Academy of Country Music’s Tempo magazine that everything around him has an effect on his music. “What my kids listen to, what my kids are saying, what other artists that I really enjoy are doing,” McGraw said. “I mean, I get to go out and record records with Tony Bennett and Ne-Yo and Nelly … and Gwyneth Paltrow for goodness sake!” He says that’s what makes the music interesting and what makes the industry thrive. “It’s true art,” he said. And he also hints at some of the tracks off his upcoming album. One I cannot wait to hear is “Annie I Owe You a Dance” because it sounds like it may be about McGraw’s own homecoming dance experience.
