Randy Travis Reaches Plea Agreement on Assault Charge in Texas

Randy Travis and prosecutors in Plano, Texas, have reached a plea agreement on an assault charge resulting from the singer's altercation with his fiancee's ex-husband Ritchie Beougher, according to KTVT-TV in Dallas. Law officers issued the assault citation after the incident on the parking lot of Prestonwood Baptist Church in August. He later filed a lawsuit against Beougher, alleging the confrontation was part of a scheme to physically injure and humiliate Travis. Following a plea entered Friday (Jan. 18), Travis will receive 90 days deferred adjudication, a procedure which allows a defendant to plead guilty or no contest in exchange for meeting specific legal requirements during the time period. Once the stipulations are met, the defendant may avoid a formal conviction or have the case dismissed. Travis still faces a DWI charge stemming from a one-car accident in Grayson County, Texas, in August.
