Old married couples, rejoice. You now have your very own country song — Lady Antebellum ’s brand new single “Downtown.” The hook is just this simple: “I don’t know why you don’t take me downtown anymore.” Hillary Scott sings about how she has platforms and a dress ready to go, but he just won’t take her out on the town. It’s infectious because of the melody and the exact thought that has been running through nearly every woman’s mind since the first marriage ever. Charles Kelley told EW.com he likes the song because “more than anything, I just think we, as a band, were just ready to show a different side of us musically” and that they “just wanted to stretch our sound a little bit.” And bandmate Dave Haywood concurs. “We got to a point in our career where it was like, we can either continue and just keep doing the same thing we’ve been doing, or we can take a left turn,” he said. “This song was a 180 for us, and we fell in love with it.” From what I’ve heard of the song so far, I like that left turn. But I hope for Haywood’s wife’s sake, that’s the turn you make to get downtown.
