OFFSTAGE: Brad Paisley’s Unexpected Journey on Super Bowl Sunday

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

I guess this means Brad Paisley isn’t a big Baltimore Ravens fan. Or a San Francisco 49ers fan, either. Because when the lights went out for 34 minutes during the 2013 Super Bowl, Paisley went out to the movies. “I did the geekiest thing anybody’s ever done last night, and that is when the lights went out at the Super Bowl, I went to see The Hobbit instead — by myself,” he admitted to Detroit radio station WYCD on Monday (Feb. 4) . “My wife was sick, not like she would have gone and sat through that anyway. I reverted back to 18 years old, couldn’t get a date, sitting in a theater. I’ve never had a geekier night in my life.” And maybe movies are the best bet for Paisley right now, anyway, because I know he doesn’t like Wednesday night TV. He told the DJs at WYCD that ABC’s Nashville is hard for him to watch. Not because his wife is on the show, kissing another man, but because the storyline hits too close to home. “It hinges around an aging singer struggling to stay relevant,” Paisley said.
