OFFSTAGE: Miranda Lambert’s First Guitar Collected Dust

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

It’s almost too hard to imagine that Miranda Lambert had a guitar she didn’t play for six years. She told Us magazine, in the special collector’s issue out on Friday (Feb. 8), that her dad bought her first guitar when she was 10. (He also provided her first BB gun when she was 7, but that’s another story for another day.) Regarding the guitar, she admits, “I didn’t really want it then.” She didn’t pick it up and start strumming until she was 16. She must have been a natural and a quick study, though, because she was then voted most talented when she was a senior at Lindale High School in Texas. And she played the guitar and sang at her graduation in her cap and gown. And then just a few years after that, when Lambert was 19, she came in third on Nashville Star. I think I speak for everyone when I say that Lambert’s guitar playing was worth the six-year wait.
