OFFSTAGE: Little Big Town Hashtags Their Grammy Win

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

Kimberly Schlapman’s hashtag said it all. “#14yearsinthemaking,” she wrote after tweeting “Oh my stars!!” The Little Big Town singer was obviously thrilled that the group won their first Grammy on Sunday (Feb. 10). They won best country duo/group performance for “Pontoon,” beating out Eli Young Band ‘s “Even If It Breaks Your Heart,” Taylor Swift and the Civil Wars“Safe & Sound,” the Time Jumpers“On the Outskirts of Town” and Don Williams and Alison Krauss ‘ “I Just Came Here for The Music.” The quartet’s Jimi Westbrook told reporters backstage after the win that he remembered those years of driving around in a van and putting together concert merchandise on the way to shows. “To stand up here, it’s an absolutely unbelievable moment,” he said. And the band’s Karen Fairchild added, “When we were looking up there … your heart starts to race a little bit and you’re thinking, ‘Is it possible that they could call our name?’ Then you look at the people in your category, and you’re thinking, ‘No, it probably won’t happen,’” she said. “But then it did!”

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
