OFFSTAGE: Gary Allan Is on Warren Buffett’s Mind

(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and out of the spotlight.)

This corroborates everything I’ve ever thought about country music. The fact that billionaire Warren Buffett loves at least one country song (and, for all we know, has a Nashville playlist a country mile wide) proves the genre is not just for rednecks and hillbillies and soccer moms. During a recent appearance on CNBC, the 82-year-old financial wizard was talking about his $23 billion buyout of H.J. Heinz, the healthcare crisis and the U.S. economy. And that’s where Gary Allan came in. “America really is doing better than the rest of the world. I think from what I see, the U.S. is the strongest part of the world. It is incrementally improving,” he said. Noting that that there will always be some problems on the horizon, though, he added, “I always go with that new country song … ’Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain).’ ” Buffett’s net worth is right around $44 billion these days. Can you imagine the sweet country concert tickets he could buy with that kind of money?

Alison makes her living loving country music. She's based in Chicago, but she's always leaving her heart in Nashville.
