CMT Broadens Its Appeal With New Programs

Announcement Made Tuesday in New York City

Several new CMT programs were announced Tuesday (March 5), including an as-yet-untitled series featuring Cassadee Pope, season three winner of The Voice. The programming announcements were made during CMT’s annual presentation attended by Viacom’s top executives in New York City.

In addition to the series starring Pope, other programs confirmed to premiere later this year include The Dirty South (from Jersey Shore executive producer SallyAnn Salsano and 495 Productions), Hillbillies for Hire (from Leftfield Productions) and the acquired series Cops Reloaded (from the Fox Network).

The premieres will follow one of the biggest programming launches in CMT history, Dog and Beth: On the Hunt , starring bounty hunters Dog and Beth Chapman, which debuts April 21. Cops Reloaded joins CMT’s programming lineup on March 25.

Four returning series include the breakout hit Swamp Pawn (second season), My Big Redneck Vacation (fourth season), Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders: Making the Team (eighth season) and Redneck Island starring Steve Austin (third season).

CMT has more shows in development than ever before, led by projects recently chosen for pilot presentations: Bad Blood (from ITV), Steve Austin’s Broken Skull Ranch (from Cris Abrego), Methbusters (from Ketchum Labs) and Shootout (from Road Games Inc.).

Additionally, the annual CMT Music Awards will air live from Nashville on June 5, and CMT Crossroads returns in third quarter with Stevie Nicks and Lady Antebellum . This summer, CMT will also launch its first animated project, Bounty Hunters, starring Jeff Foxworthy , Bill Engvall , Larry the Cable Guy and Lisa Lampanelli.

Special guests at the New York announcement included CMT Hot Country Countdown hosts Cody Alan, Alecia Davis and Katie Cook. Sheryl Crow also performed a four-song set featuring music from her upcoming album, including its first single, “Easy.”
